Having the 4th of July weekend pass us by, I realized yet again how proud I am to be an American. But my question is what is happing to my America?
Recently I read Stephen Colbert’s book I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU, a brilliant piece by the way. I absolutely loved it and just like Colbert I’m not much of a reader but I purchased and read the book because I’m a huge fan. Politics have always frustrated me, but Colbert makes me love it because he just tells the truth. It’s a shame that he was booted from the presidential elections because he is by the far the best candidate. Just like the books title he is America, or at least what America is suppose to represent.
The book is an elaborate detailed description of several parts of American life, and how it should be. For instance, in chapter one entitled The Family; he states that we need to lay down rules for your children that do not make sense. At first you think he’s crazy but it all makes sense in this one quote, “Let me tell you a little story. Once, there was a child whose father had lots of rules he thought were unfair. What’s more, the strict father was never around, but continued making even more unreasonable demands on the child. Finally, the child had had enough-he rebelled, and lived happily ever after.
That child’s name? ”America” (Colbert 11). America the beautiful, what a great story.
This country was established so long ago that society is forgetting what America stands for. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. We are supposed to go to war, we are supposed to have guns, we are America, but the damn democrats always want to mess it all up. Colbert, my favorite Republican (I capitalized Republican but not democrat on purpose by the way) truly is and stands for everything America once did stand for. In his book he discusses everything, and every single thing he says I completely agree with. He says we should be outranged with the homosexuals for attempting to gain ground on our American language. “Homo” means “the same”, and all babies are born with the same sexual orientation-straight, just ask any baby he says. He says we do have an illegal immigrant problem. Which is so true, my other presidential candidate, Giuliani wanted to put up electric fences by the Mexican bordered had have solders places there to shoot on sight, I was so thrilled by this idea but he was also booted from the campaign, what a shame. Colbert made a really great point though, “did you know there are more illegal Mexican immigrants in America today than there were American troops in occupied Germany after World War II” (181). That’s outrageously true. But seriously Colbert reviewed his own book, which he could because he didn’t write, he just dictated it, and he said it is “A great read! I laughed, I cried, I lost 15 pounds! I cannot recommend this book highly enough.” I could not agree with him more, if everyone could read this book and agree with it like I did then my America would be exactly what it should be, beautiful.
If Oprah can suggest books to read, with absolutely no references that allow her to make these calls (God I hate Oprah), so can I, go out and buy your own copy of I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU it’s wonderful.
